The Day My Soul Died – Rishi Vohra

This is a total departure from my usual smut reads. Rishi contacted me and asked if I would read his book. I’ll admit I had to think about it for a few days because this book deals with rape and I wasn’t sure how I would go with that, but I am truly honored to have read this story.

Sometimes just when the world is starting to feel like its overwhelmingly dark something comes along and sparks a little glimmer of light and hope that all is not lost. This is that book! It’s both heartbreaking and hopeful and the ending will stay with me for a long time!

Set in Mumbai Indian Sunaina is a girl with her whole life ahead of her. She has just finished studying and is looking forward to marrying her long-term boyfriend and living her best life………..Until she goes to join a gym and is raped by the owner.

I devoured this in a day and gasped out loud when the twist came. It’s a masterclass in how Karma works and how the world is still geared so that women are commodities and how unjust the justice system can actually be.

Sunaina grapples with coming to terms with what happened to her, the people you would expect to wrap around her and offer comfort are not the people she believes they are. And it’s the outcasts and the gossiped about who actually show their true colours and are more of a support just by being there and listening.

I highly recommend reading this book. It’s available on Amazon to purchase. It made me hopeful and proved that not all humans are awful. Sure, there is so much work in the real world to do in regards to women’s rights but the fact that this came from a male perspective gives me a glimmer of hope for humanity.
