Thorns & Ashes – Alyssa-Ray Bouman

OMG put this on your TBR stat! This book is heartbreak, hope, sunshine & sadness and how to move on after a massive loss.

I adored this book. I have never read anything by Alyssa-Ray before. Some of the characters are in her other books but you don’t need to read them to understand where this book is going but I am definitely going to go back and read them!

This book kinda has a Schitts creek vibe Tris was a uber wealthy socialite who thought nothing of jetting off around the world on her adventures. That is until daddy gets locked up for his white-collar crimes. Suddenly she is forced into the real world and works in the local coffee shop to make rent on her little duplex. BUT its hers and she works hard for everything she has which gives her a new appreciation for things. She is also really lonely she has a rep as a rich bitch, and she leans into it because it’s better than the reality. She also likes animals better than people!

Levi has just moved to town and is the new captain of the fire department. Phew his story will break your heart. He has experienced a major loss and is starting over in a new town. He’s a sarcastic asshole (and I love him for it) and he has no problem telling the chick at the local coffee shop he coffee sucks. He is staying with his best friend but is kinda cramping his style with his new girlfriend so he agrees to move into the empty duplex in town………Guess who his new next-door neighbour (so delicious) is

The banter between these two is next level. Levi starts to realise he might have feels for Tris and doesn’t know what to do with that. I also adored that there are little signs pointing him towards Tris.

Tris is actually awesome and understands what Levi is going through, so she doesn’t push him or expect anything. She is also a badass at making sure that the truth comes out and things are put right.

Please read this book! It’s a masterclass in intertwining stories and showing that it’s ok to keep living life after loss.
