Holy cowboy! Hold on to your hat for this one.
Ok first things first I strongly suggest you read Somebody Like Me before diving into this one. You don’t have to have to, but I think the experience is all the better if you do.
This book will make you laugh out loud and then when you’re not looking rip your still beating heart out and make you sob like a baby. Chapter 20 destroyed me! I am so glad I was reading this in the privacy of my home because it made me cry so hard! why you ask well let me tell you about this book……..
Abi Acosta is a single mum to the cutest little boy Stetson. She is busy running Hartwell Hills the family ranch with her cousin Lachlan. Abi’s husband a Bull rider named Sylas dies in front of her and his best friend Cash during a practice on the ranch. (It is part of the book protect your mental health if this could be triggering for you) cut to 5 years in the future and the ranch needs a cash injection so they decide to board horses and let someone use their training arena. Lachlan knows someone so sets it all up.
Cash Callaghan’s life has been a mess since his best friend Sylas passed. He was a saddle bronc rider until an accident saw the horse fall on him and crush his left leg. His wife left him while he was learning to re-walk again (because she is an absolute delight). So, he has turned to training. He is training Quinn in Barrel racing, and she falls off her horse at an event and needs somewhere to recover and have PT sessions to get back to racing. His friend Lachlan has the ideal solution.
See what has happened here? Cash turns up to Hartwell Hills and to a VERY pissed off Abi who thinks that Cash walked out on her when her husband passed. Thanks to the delightful ex-wife there is a complete miscommunication and luckily Abi and Cash work things out. The working things out part is so well written and done with such care. Stetson will melt your heart he is so damn cute! He has a horse called Marshmallow (squee) and says the cutest things…………..Just prepare yourself for Chapter 20.
This book is fade to black so it’s not full-on smut like I usually recommend but it’s still totally worth it for the amazing story. I am dying to read Lachlan’s story and hope he is up next because there are so many little hints about him in this book.
