The “lesson” trope is up there with “accidental pregnancy” in my pet peeves of tropes. For some reason it gives me the ick! but Ann Einerson does it so well that you can almost forget the whole give me lessons on sex thing and enjoy the fact that both these guys are secretly into each other and this is a way to get together under the guise of not ruining their friendship.
Birdie is the animal activist from the friend group and starts the book off getting arrested for liberating some animals from being maltreated. Birdie has a lot going on she has an unofficial animal rescue and her mum has early onset Parkinson’s and only her dad knows about so none of her friends have any idea her mum is being cared for round the clock and is slowly fading to the horrible disease….oh and her dad is also the town police sheriff.
Walker is Briar’s adopted brother (We meet Briar in Wrangled Love – you don’t have to have read this one) he splits his time being a rancher and volunteering as a town deputy (with Birdie’s dad) he has a bit of a rep as a playboy but what everyone doesn’t realise is that it’s been a long time between drinks for him. He has been harbouring feelings for Birdie and didn’t know how to act on them.
Birdie is a virgin (obvs) and is a bit of a disaster when it comes to the opposite sex, she always seems to make a mess of things, and she is sick of it. She decides to use Walkers extensive knowledge in the subject to enlist him to help her with “lessons”. Lessons she seems to be pretty good in.
Walker is so kind to Birdie he is there for her and helps her but makes sure she is ok and gets consent before he does anything. THERE IS NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP, and I adore Ann for this, but you do get to see how long and deep Walker’s feelings actually are and it is just the sweetest thing! This is a great addition to the series, and I can wait for Heath & Charlies book the tension between these two is going to be good!
