This is a spicy quick read. I adored this story, and it was really interesting that it wasn’t the usual CEO and assistant.
Mia is a writer and has a web comic that she uses to poke fun at her brother’s best friend Laim. In the comic he is Miles who never smiles. Mia’s brother is a fireman who was injured on the job and is now in a wheelchair so is trying to come to terms with his life changing. Liam needs a new head writer for season two of his TV show and Jake suggests Mia.
Mia is awesome she takes no shit and is quite happy to tell Liam what she thinks of him. They had a bit of a hook up over new year’s and she thinks that he only sees her as a little sister (come on we know that’s not true!). Mia and Jake’s parents are the absolute worst they aren’t fans of Mia’s work and think she should settle down and either marry a rich guy or get a boring job. Her family dinners are the absolute worst!
Liam is a successful CEO who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is the eldest and his mum had issues, so he has grown up in fix it mode. This is one of the main themes in the story, how things don’t have to be perfect all the time and by fixing things for everyone he is not actually helping.
I like the way Leslie writes her characters with depth and how all the stories intercept. I really like that Jake wasn’t a dick about Mia dating Laim. But just wanted to make sure that Mia was loved first and foremost. There are all sorts of things brought up in the book and they are all handled really well and with care. I really hope Mia’s bestie Sophie gets her own book cause I want to visit her burlesque club so badly!
