The Royal Situation – Lyra Parish

Lyra, Lyra, Lyra you diabolical genius! Holy shit this book had my heart in freaking knots the whole time I was reading it! I was waiting for the heart break then I read there was no third act break up and didn’t know what to feel! I have never wanted a couple to work more than Louis and Addison even with everything stacked against them.

So, Addison Cross is an artist and the younger sister of Patterson and Jameson (Patterson’s book is the Hockey Situation – Read it its good) and she has just hosted an exhibition of her artwork when she meets Louis

Louis is the crown prince of Montclaire he has been given a deadline to find a wife, so he can take over as King. This is some old school bullshit! He hasn’t met anyone who comes close to intriguing him and has a bit of a playboy rep because of it. Of course, the public don’t know what is going on behind closed doors and he is practically being forced into marriage to keep his super controlling mother happy. He doesn’t think he will ever see Addison again and then she turns up in Montclaire to take part in an art competition to find the next palace portrait artist.

This is Lyra Parish at her very very best! There are layers of stories, and this is about having choices in life and the consequences when those choices are taken away or when a sense of duty outweighs normal human behaviour! Louis’s mother is a conniving viper and the lengths she will go to for the crown are bordering on psychotic. The deceit, backstabbing and vindictive behavior in this book are edge of your seat stuff. Oh, does the tea get spilt when this all comes out!

This book was a freaking ride, and I need a minute to reset! Once again Lyra is proving why she is one of my favourite authors! I honestly didn’t vibe with the whole royalty trope and was a bit suspicious going into this but my god what a freaking trip! And and we are getting a new series, and I AM LIVING FOR IT!! I cannot wait to see what’s next and I love that it’s gonna be a spinoff of this and we will get to see more about Louis’s sister!
