I knew this book was going to be a goodie when I peeped the playlist. Sleep Token, Bad Omens and Yungblud yes please! I always scan the playlist when an author goes to the trouble of making one and I have been introduced to some awesome new music because of them.
I dived into this book without reading the first book in the series Under Fire and I still really enjoyed the story. It takes lady balls to open a book with the MMC of your last book hanging by a tread after a workplace accident! Jason Mendez is an ex-Marine and fire fighter after West is in an accident attending a fire Jason is trying to hold it together. He suffers from PTSD from Afghanistan and is still trying to adjust to being back. He is also trying to ignore his feelings for his best friend West’s twin sister Wren.
Wren has just opened a yoga studio in town and is worried that no one is going to turn up to her opening day she also wants a partner someone she can be her whole self with instead of just pretending that everything is fine. She is so into Jason, and she thinks he rejected her one night, so she decides that she has had enough and is going to date herself. One of her besties suggests that she joins the new dating app Mailer where you chat to guys instead of just swiping so she decides to join up.
She sees one message from TrueGrit1985 that stands out to her and they start chatting. She is real and honest and hits it off with the mystery guy she is chatting to who seems to be just as into it as she is………Their messages get VERY spicy. She invites him to her yoga studio opening so they can meet in real life.
Jason has been having a super rough time of it he has stuff going on at work and is trying to keep his head above water while not dealing with things as well as he should be namely reaching out for help. He’s telling everyone he is getting help and trying to just ride it out. (I love that Sarah made this man able to cry when things got too hard and that he got over himself and got the help he needs.) He signs up to Mailer and starts talking to NamasteAndSlay the one person he can be truly honest with without feeling like he is being judged………Then he gets invited to the opening of her yoga studio.
He is wating to be perfect for Wren but then he realises that she doesn’t want him perfect she just wants him. This is a slow burn, but they get spicy on their messages so that sort of makes up for it. This book made me cry like a baby and also laugh out loud. I have never been so invested in two people getting together and wanted their HEA so badly.
