This book is the most delicious enemies to lovers I have read in a looooong time. I’m not even finished it, and I need to tell you about it!
Justin and Kayla are HOT! Justin HATES Kayla with all of his being and poor Kayla can’t for the life of her work out why. He is a level 10 asshole to her calls her trailer trash and makes her feel like shit. The thing is Kayla has always had a crush on him and just can’t work out what she is supposed to have done. She asks but he always tells her she should know what she did, so she is completely in the dark.
Kayla is the Little Hope whipping boy, so her mother was less than stellar, but she is tarred with the same brush, and no one has stopped to get her side of anything they just believe the small-town gossip.
Finally, Kayla has enough and she fights back to Justin and ends up finally telling her side of the story and working out what it is she is supposed to have done. Justin realises that things aren’t always black and white and now doesn’t know what to do with the massive amount of guilt he carries. He also struggles with the fact he has feelings for Kayla, but he thinks he is supposed to hate her.
I have been hanging on to every word of this book. I feel for Kayla and how small-town gossips can ruin a reputation and be so small minded. I want her to move away but I also want her to fight the prejudices that are not her doing. I also want to hate Justin for being such a complete asshole for so many years but my god he is hot!
Ok I’ve now finished this book and woah! Once everything comes out it’s a twisted little story of what guilt does to someone and how people deal with guilt to the point of almost ruining their lives over it. Also, ew living in a small town with nosey people where gossip is taken as gospel.
I did think the ending was a bit rushed but then I was at 90% and thinking hmmm how the heck is this going to have a HEA. There are 6 books in this whole series, and the next one has a warning that it’s darker than the previous two so I might be skipping that one.
