The Wrong Brother – Ariana Cane

This is the first book I have read by Ariana Cane. Its book 2 of the series but it’s so easy to read without reading The Wrong Sister although I am off to read that now.

It starts sort of simultaneously with the Wrong Sister but it’s a complete standalone because its Beatrice & Noah’s story. It’s actually been done really well and made it a better experience because of this.

Noah and Beatrice meet when Beatrice is supposed to marry Ezra (Noah’s brother) but that doesn’t happen. They are in Bora Bora for the so-called wedding. Ezra and Maeve (Bea’s Sister) are missing and then end up together obviously (first book). Bea’s parents are the designers of this whole situation they treat Bea like property and Bea’s mother has been even more disappointed in Bea since ‘the incident’ (you will be so mad on her behalf when you find out what this is) Noah is witness to the appalling behavior Bea has to put up with but doesn’t say anything or come to her aid. Bea realises that if she wants to be saved, she needs to do it herself and walks away from her family and their rubbish.

Jump forward a year and Bea is living in a little shoebox in New York desperately looking for a new job. She gets an in with a temp agency and ends up as Noah’s new assistant. Noah has had feelings for Bea since he first met her but because she was supposed to marry his brother and her sister is now his sister-in-law, he doesn’t think it would be appropriate to act on these feelings. He thinks she is just a little rich girl playing at a job, so he makes things really difficult for her.

Bea proves she is good at her job and Noah realises that he has had the wrong opinions of her. Noah has a really bad temper and loses it one night when the blueprints for his latest build get destroyed. Bea comes to help him clean up and get the plans redrawn. She stands up to his brother on his behalf and that causes all sorts of feelings in Noah that he can’t handle, and he ends up going back on a promise to himself to deal with these feelings. Once again Bea helps him out.

This is a super S L O W burn but the story of these two more than make up for it. Maeve would drive anyone to drink she is like a drill sergeant giving Bea the third degree to get the tea on what is happening in her life! She was not one of my favourites that’s for sure!

The afterword in this book is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!
