You know I love Lyra and every time she releases a new book, I clear my schedule to devour it. And every time I feel like I say this is my new favourite. Well Lyra has done it again this is a Christmasy book, but I seriously love the Jolly’s and Merryville, and I think i might re-read this series even when it’s not Christmas (maybe a mid-year Christmas when its actually cold in NZ).
Lucas Jolly is one of my favourites! A Christmas tree lumbersnack! Who has been in love with Holiday Patterson his whole life. She moved to Paris to chase her dreams of becoming a pastry chef and now she is back working at the Cookie store on the Jolly’s Christmas tree farm. He starts off so angry and bitter at Holiday for leaving but his Mawmaw throws them both together when she enters them in the towns Christmas Cookie competition and they have no choice but to work together.
Holiday Patterson has come back to her hometown after her dreams fell apart in Paris. She was engaged to a controlling, manipulative man who isolated her and took credit for her work. She left him and he backlisted her in the industry. He turns up in the Merryville and tries to manipulate his way back into Holidays life. Luckily, she has moved on and remembered who she is and refuses to go back to the meek shadow of herself that she was.
I’m not usually a fan of second chance romances I don’t know what it is but they can give me the ick. This one had me reading it and almost holding my breath for Lucas to get his dreams. I have never been more invested in a happy ending like this one. I like how Lyra’s books make the characters seem like long lost friends who you want the best for. Her stories are always so realistic, and this one especially hit hard because I have been in a relationship with someone who tried to stifle me and made me feel small. So, reading about someone going through that was almost healing.
