There are certain authors who when their books show up stop everything and dive right in and husband and wife team Amy Mcgavin are on that list.
Break out the shortbread and the whiskey and get ready to head back to Scotland for this one! Once again pure Scottish brilliance that has me wanting to pack my bags and get straight on a plane!
This is the first in the new Scottish Single Dads series and I loved every minute of it. Lachlan Munro is a widowed ferry captain with the most adorable son Finn, and a golden retriever called Gus. He is grumpy and set in his ways he loves a good schedule and hasn’t stepped on the island where he grew up in 4 years since his wife passed away. Even though he sails the ferry there every day!
Blair Turner was in children’s publishing in New York until she got set up to take the fall for something and lost her career. She travels to Scotland to visit the hometown of her beloved grandma and to get away from the public scrutiny.
Lachlan needs a nanny for the summer holidays and Blair needs somewhere to stay. After an unfortunate run in Lachlan reluctantly hires Blair. so, she ends up looking after 6-year-old Finn and Gus (even though she isn’t a fan of dogs) and lives in the granny flat in the backyard. The interactions between Lachlan and Blair are laugh out loud funny. He is struggling with having someone so vibrant and forward in his back yard and is having thoughts that he didn’t think he would have again after his wife’s passing (they were childhood sweethearts so there was only her). The culture shock for Blair was also hilarious and made for some really funny moments.
Finn is the sweetest and comes out of his shell while Blair is around. She also helps Lachlan to be more open about his wife and face up to his past that he was keeping buried. This was such a delightful easy read I devoured it in almost a day. The characters are rich and have the best stories. I like how it was single dads against the world with Lachlan, Douglas and Struan (I guarantee I have butchered Struan’s name in my head!) all going to the Pit and commiserating with each other but also helping each other out.
