Ohhh the hay fever is strong in this book! Make sure you have tissues on hand!
There is NO third act break up which is AWESOME!!! But it made me cry and got me in the feels!
Jensen is a CEO in New York and finds out he is now the legal guardian of his 5-year-old son (who he had no clue about!). He flies to Chicago to collect his son from child services. His son Caleb hasn’t spoken since his mum died and Jensen has no idea what to do with a kid. He decides to go home to Bluebell, Montana for the summer so he can get help from Julie Hartford who was instrumental in his childhood and is now the towns principal.
Briar Hartford is Julie’s adopted daughter and is working towards starting up a non-profit for abandoned kids who just need somewhere safe to hang out. She agrees to let Jensen and Caleb stay in her cottage since everything is booked for summer. She is super good with Caleb and makes him feel welcome. Jensen sees how good she is with Caleb and asks Briar to be his nanny for the summer while he works remotely.
Briar and Jensen start to connect over spiked hot chocolates and their shared pasts with useless parents and soon the line are being blurred all over the place. I’ve said it already but the fact there is no third act break up just some actual honest conversation makes this book so good!
My little dark heart started to break when Caleb finally spoke. In fact, instead of a third act break up its a third act tearjerker! You have been warned! Also, Jensen turning back into a wrangler wearing cowboy from being Mr CEO in a three-piece suit……Yes please sign me up!
Ann Enierson writes such good characters, and I love that each book has a cameo of someone in it. I do have to sit down and draw a little family tree to keep track of all the books I have read by Ann. But they are all so worth it!
