It Happened One Summer – Tessa Bailey

A romantic steamy comedy that’s one of my faves!

This book is GOLD! I re-read this at least once a year sometimes even more if im feeling sad!

Piper is a LA party girl and when she throws the mother of all parties and gets left with the mess she is sent with her sister (who is doing her a solid) by her step father to Westport, Washington a small fishing town she was born in. Her dad was a king crab fisherman and has a building in the town that the step father has been paying a caretaker to look after (Schitts creek vibes are strong in this one).

They turn up in the town and immediately make an impression (could be helped by Pipers lipstick bag!). They get to the building their father owned and discover the caretaker has been doing anythingbut looking after it and it the local hang out to escape the tourists. There we meet Brendan the unoffical mayor of Westport, a widow and the captain of the crab fishing boat her dad lost his life on. He is a grumpy grump who immediately writes Piper off as an air head (ok she doesnt exactly help the situation) but their slow burn is perfection!

Piper is trying to navigate her new normal while being judged at all angles. She meets a grandmother she never knew she had and gets her out of her shell. Then the girls decide to renovate the bar and make it something their father would be proud of.

Brendan and Piper have the most romantic dinner and the build up to Brendan asking Piper out is so good! Then Brendan goes to sea and a storm hits (I wont say more but goddam the hospital scene lives rent free in my head)

Brendan is the rock Piper needs to start living her life without thinking about what everyone else thinks or how many likes she is getting on insta, he shows her that she can be taken care of and loved. Piper helps Brendan get over the loss of his wife and start living for himself again.

This book is like sunshine when you’ve had a bad day or a warm hug from a friend.

Unfortnately its not available on Kindle Unlimited but its so worth the investment.
